As mentioned earlier, the invention of the Peanut Sheller by Jock Brandis is the subject of our first book, The Promise of Peanuts. I thought I might include the following list of links for some background info on Jock Brandis and the Peanut Sheller. Please browse. If you are interested in supporting this incredible project please consider buying a copy of The Promise of Peanuts and donating it to a local school library. The book should be available for sale in September. Or you can reserve and advance copy by emailing HRHGwenyfar@yahoo.com. Thank you so much.

Problems: Compost + Creation, Biblophillia run amok

Problems

Well it’s like this: I had started a blog last fall called Indie Press Genesis. It was about tracking the evolution of a micro press from concept to reality. Things had to get put on hold with the book that I was describing wanting to publish. I had a great concept mapped out and then one of the author’s exgirlfriends got in touch with me as a result of the blog and, besides behaving very badly and making a fool of herself, she succeed in making it necessary to put that project at least on the back burner for a while.

So I had to regroup.

Which brings us to

Biblophillia run amok.

When we left off, I was trying to get together a working business plan and a name, which would have been extremely helpful. I am naming this publishing company: Bunny Love Press. Now, we are not talking Hallmark Card cute bunnies here, at least that is what I told the graphics guys. Because both Curtis and Rex, the bunnies of Bunny love press know that they are bad asses. In fact Curtis is the self proclaimed Fabio of Rabbits.

So here is the current plan that we are operating under: We got a name, which was an important fist step. Now we have a product. The first book will be The Promise of Peanuts, a real life fairy tale. Though it fits with the fifth and sixth grade curriculums it is an enjoyable read for the whole family. So what it about? Well Peanuts, and a man who had to keep a promise. For those of you who don’t know, I have the privilege of sharing my life with one of the most incredible men on the planet: Jock Brandis.
Besides being an accomplished Film Gaffer (the guy with the lights), Jock is also an inventor and humanitarian. Several years ago after visiting a friend in Africa Jock found himself trying to keep what seamed to be an impossible promise to the head of a lady’s marketing cooperative. The only solution was for him to invent a machine that has been dubbed by some “The Holy Grail of Sustainable Agriculture.” Believe it or not it is something as simple as a hand crank peanut sheller. A great humanitarian, Jock took steps to make sure the machine stayed protected in the public domain and that neither he nor anyone else would profit from it. It is estimated that this machine will be able to help 100 million people feed themselves and leap frog into the next level of economic mobility. For more info see www.fullbellyproject.org.

Or you can buy the book.

All the profits go to support the peanut sheller.

ETA for book release is September.

I am happy to report that instead of finding illustrations, Jock’s daughter, Maaike Brender a` Brandis, provided an extensive photographic archive of the trip to Africa with the first peanut sheller. The lovely gentlemen at www.Batabix.com , who are redesigning the site www.Gwenyfar.com , donated their service to layout the book. I just cannot brag about them (Justin especially!) enough.
So that brings us up to date with the first project.
